The Old Age Security (OAS) pension is a monthly payment available to most seniors aged 65+. The amount you receive depends on three key factors: your age (65–74 or 75+), how long you’ve lived in Canada after 18, and your annual net income. Use our OAS Payment Calculator to instantly see what you could receive, including potential top‑ups like the 10% increase at 75 and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
Select whether you are 65 to 74 or 75 and over. The calculator automatically applies the 10% permanent increase if you're 75+ (as of July 2022).
Input the total number of years you have resided in Canada since age 18. If you lived here for 40 years or more, you qualify for the full OAS pension. Fewer years give a partial pension (years ÷ 40 × full amount).
Enter your expected net income for the current year. This determines if you are subject to the OAS recovery tax (clawback). For 2024, the threshold is $90,997. If your income exceeds that, you may repay part of your pension.
If you want to estimate Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Allowance, or Allowance for the Survivor, indicate if you are single, married/common‑law, or a survivor. The calculator uses the latest income thresholds.
Instantly see your estimated monthly payment, any GIS top‑up, and potential recovery tax. The results adjust automatically if you qualify for the 75+ increase or a partial pension.
| Age group | Maximum monthly | Income threshold (2024) |
|---|---|---|
| 65 to 74 | $742.31 | less than $148,451 |
| 75 and over | $816.54 | less than $154,196 |
* These are maximums; your actual payment depends on residence years and income. The calculator applies the exact formula.
You need at least 10 years (if living in Canada) or 20 years (if outside Canada) to qualify. Full pension requires 40 years after 18. Partial = (years/40) × full amount.
If net income exceeds $90,997 (2024), you repay 15% of the excess. At around $148,451 (age 65–74) the full OAS is clawed back.
A permanent 10% increase applies automatically the month after your 75th birthday. Does not affect GIS.
You need 20 years of residence to receive OAS abroad. Years worked in a country with a social security agreement may count.
Depending on your income and marital status, you may also qualify for Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) (if 65+, low income), the Allowance (60–64, spouse gets GIS), or the Allowance for the Survivor (60–64, widowed). The calculator includes these when you provide marital status and income.
Example: A single senior aged 68 with 42 years in Canada and net income $20,000 would receive full OAS ($742.31) + maximum GIS ($1,108.74) = $1,851.05/month. Try the calculator to see your combination.
Because waiting until you turn 65 to find out what you qualify for is stressful. This OAS payment calculator shows you right now your estimated monthly amount including the age 75 increase, GIS, Allowance, and clawback. No surprises when that first payment arrives.
